Let's Get Started
While living in my first pandemic at 20 years old, I have not only seen my parents, but my friends lose their jobs as well. During this pandemic many people were taken out of their offices and were forced to stay home because of the virus.
Salons, schools and even big business corporations were put on a halt due to the severity of the virus. By seeing it first hand and experiencing the fears of possible financial discomfort, I decided to create a blog to dive deeper into the life of nonessential workers.
By blogging about this weekly, I will be able to see what life is like for these nonessential workers. I will also be able to see what the future holds for these companies and what is going to happen next after the pandemic ends.
With Governor Polis lifting the constraints of the public safety order, many businesses are getting ready to reopen their doors to the public. I want to figure out what will happen within these next few weeks and what it will mean for this virus.
Before creating my first blog, I covered a story regarding anxiety in teens and young adults. I followed up with a student and counselor from the University of Northern Colorado and an internal medicine doctor at UC-Health. I covered this story for the majority of this past spring semester.
As an up and coming journalist, my strengths are finding valuable quotes and crafting interesting interview questions. I like to think that I take my time as a reporter to gather all necessary information. I like to see every angle of a story, not just a one sided view.
In the reporting world, I tend to struggle with covering topics that I am not knowledgeable or passionate about. Sure I can write about anything when the right information is there, but when you are not passionate about the topic, finding the perfect information can be difficult. Having to teach myself about the topic and trying to understand it is where I tend to fall short.
While writing seems to come easy to me, I also find it difficult to balance simplicity and going into depth. There are some times when it is hard to elongate my writing because it can be so straight to the point whereas, other times it can be hard to simplify complex ideas.
Like I said before, this is my first blog and hopefully not my last. I plan and hope to get better and more comfortable as a journalist while using this blog. This blog will help and push me to write on my own deadlines and to also make me a more rounded writer.
I like the overall theme of your blog, and I like your beat. I think this can serve a purpose in helping nonessential workers come forward and explain how it's been for them. This is also a great idea because it's keeping documentation of history. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what unfolds on your blog!
ReplyDeleteYour beat is very neat! Recent events have caused a lot of damage to a lot of people. I too, have been affected and have loved ones that have been affected. I personally have lost a job and know many who have been let go or have felt some kind of loss.
